What to Expect at Your First Appointment

Your first appointment includes time for conversation, review of your health history, and an individualized Traditional Chinese Medicine assessment.

During the visit, you may discuss:

• Your main reason for seeking care

• Your health history and current symptoms

• Sleep, digestion, stress, energy, menstrual cycle, or other whole-body patterns

• Your wellness goals

• Any medications, supplements, or current medical care

• Questions or concerns about acupuncture or related therapies

Your treatment plan is individualized. Depending on your needs, your visit may include acupuncture, electroacupuncture, cupping, Gua Sha, moxibustion, dietary therapy, or Chinese herbal medicine recommendations only when the practitioner deems appropriate.

Acupuncture needles are very thin, sterile, and single-use. Many patients find treatment calming, though everyone’s experience is different.

What to Wear

Please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows access to areas such as the arms, legs, abdomen, back, shoulders, or knees.

Good options include:

• Loose pants that can roll above the knees

• A short-sleeved or loose-sleeved shirt

• Comfortable layers

• Clothing that allows you to relax easily on the treatment table

Sheets or draping are used when needed for comfort and privacy.

How Long Visits Take

Appointment length may vary depending on the type of visit and your treatment plan.

New patient visits are typically longer because they include additional time for intake, assessment, discussion, and treatment.

Returning visits are usually shorter and focus on updates, continued treatment, and adjustments to your care plan.

At this time Essence Acupuncture does accept insurance and cannot guarantee insurance coverage. If applicable, superbills may be available for patients who wish to submit claims directly to their insurance company. Please check with your insurance provider regarding out-of-network acupuncture benefits.

Cancellation Policy

Because appointments are reserved specifically for each patient, please provide as much notice as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule.

Please cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours before your appointment. Late cancellations or missed appointments may be subject to a $50 cancellation fee.

New patients should begin with a new patient appointment so there is enough time for intake, assessment, questions, and an individualized treatment plan.

Before Your Visit

To help your appointment go smoothly:

• Complete any intake forms before your visit

• Eat a light meal or snack beforehand

• Wear comfortable clothing

• Arrive a few minutes early

• Avoid heavy exercise, alcohol, or a very large meal immediately before treatment

When to Seek Medical Care
